- Graduate Programme – Engineering
-
£ Competitive + Excellent Benefits
Based out of one of our operational sites, the Graduate programme is centred around skills required to undertake a role within our operational teams, with an additional element to suit a Engineering Graduate. With lots of travel across the UK, this is an exciting 50-week programme that will see you learning everything there is to know about engineering as it relates to the waste management industry.
It’s no walk in the park and you’ll cram a huge amount of learning into a very short space of time. The outcome, however, will be well worth the effort. Upon completion of the programme, you’ll have the foundations to be able to ultimately take on either Operational Management or Project Management roles within the business, the type of responsibility most graduates only dream of.
During the programme, you’ll be given a weekly diary to enable you to record your learning experiences. Throughout it, you’ll undertake a broad range of assignments to be presented at the end of each stage. The programme is also structured to give an all round appreciation of the company, and of the different departments with which the Engineering function interacts. In your first week, you’ll be given a comprehensive induction that will take you to a range of sites, giving you the opportunity to meet with your programme mentor for the first time, as well as a variety of other influential people within our business.
For eight weeks you’ll undertake a secondment with either one of our contractors or design partners. There’ll be lots of hands on experience on-site, and lots of time developing your knowledge and appreciation of the roles of other functions within the Company. This is required in order to develop a multidiscipline approach which is vital to engineering problem solving.
Throughout your engineering placement you will be given a variety of projects to manage of increasing complexity and responsibility, as your engineering skills and commercial awareness increase throughout the graduate programme. We’ll support you all the way. Your mentor will be there at every stage in the process to ensure you’re getting as much as you can out of the programme. The programme will be tailored to assist you in achieving a Professional Qualification with a relevant Institute (e.g. Chartered Engineer), and furnish you with the skills to take on a role that will set your career in the industry off to the best possible start.
All you’ll need to get started in this rewarding and exciting career is a BEng or MEng in Civil, Structural, Mechanical, Chemical or Environmental Engineering. We would also be interested in hearing from graduates from other related engineering disciplines.
For more information about the Graduate Programme and to apply, please contact Nicola Gullett, HR Adviser, on 01302 303036 or email nicola.gullett@wrg.co.uk
- Graduate Programme – Estates
-
£ Competitive + Excellent Benefits
This is your chance to be involved in a wide range of projects that are not only live, but crucial to the future of our business. Working alongside our Operations, Engineering, Restoration, Environment and other specialist teams, you’ll have the opportunity to make a real impact as you get on-site and give the programme your all. Based out of one of our operational sites, the Graduate programme is centred around skills required to undertake a role within our operational teams, with an additional element to suit a Estates Graduate. So we welcome graduates from Estates Management backgrounds as well as those who have studied Geography, Environmental Science or similar subject areas.
Graduates from Estates Management and Planning backgrounds
The aim of the programme will be to give you the necessary professional experience to enable you to become RICS or RTPI qualified. We’ll offer a structured programme of work in close liaison with an existing, experienced team member on a range of projects to introduce you to the full range of Estates Management or Planning work within waste management. Where possible, this will also include non-waste work, such as promoting and developing surplus land. Plus, we’ll give you the chance to gain experience of Environmental Permitting. Running for two years, the programme would mean working through the APC process with a designated mentor for RICS candidates. For those studying towards RTPI, it would mean the creation of an auditable work programme to support an application for membership.
Graduates from other disciplines
Following a more general programme (based within our Operational teams), you’ll gain experience of Estates Management, Planning and Environmental Permitting for six to nine months. There’ll be an assessment upon completion and from there we’ll help you to decide on where you want to take your newly developed skills within the business. There may even be the chance to undertake further postgraduate training. For the six to nine month period, you’ll be involved in a range of projects, working alongside experienced members of the team and with a senior member assigned to you as your mentor.
